All the skills you’ve been taught and practice daily as a nurse are exactly those needed to flourish as an EntrepreNurse
Hi, I’m Deborah Hart
I started on my journey in healthcare pretty early in my life and have been dedicated throughout to a path of self-improvement so I could better serve the health and wellness of my patients, as well as myself.
I’ve had what many would call a successful career. After graduating with a Science Degree in Biology & Chemistry and serving for over ten years as a Medical Assistant in the Canadian Forces, I enrolled in a nursing degree program. Four years later I was a highly skilled emergency nurse with almost a decade of experience in trauma and emergency medicine with the CF, was acing all the emergency and trauma certifications, and I was just starting my nursing career. I graduated on the Dean’s list, was inducted into Dalhousie University’s Honors Nursing Society, then the International Honors nursing society — Sigma Theta Tau. I was flying high.
A couple of years later, I had multiple job offers across Canada, the US and abroad. I decided to see Canada’s Arctic and soon after was in a Nursing Charge position in one of the most challenging nursing careers — remote Arctic nursing. I paid off my student loans, purchased a new car and a house within two years of completing my nursing degree. Realizing there was more I could do for my patients, I went back to school for an Arctic Remote Nursing program and the Introduction to Nurse Practitioner course. I was hooked, and soon thereafter applied for a Master’s in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner degree. While studying for my Master’s at Dalhousie, I returned to Trauma ER nursing and received multiple awards and scholarships.
At the age of 31, I was a relatively early pioneer in advanced practice nursing — a small group of nursing professionals with a Masters, a Nurse Practitioner’s License and a professional designation to diagnose and prescribe — enabling me to bring more to my patients and their wellbeing. I brought these skills first to Africa, to give back where I could, then back to the Arctic, followed by other remote regions across Canada, and then into the New Collaborative Emergency Centers, bridging emergency and primary healthcare/family medicine.
Despite my professional success it was never enough — I was never enough. I lived in a world that was ‘sick’ and full of bullies that were on power trips in their roles and had no concern for me, my patients, nor my fellow healthcare colleagues. The bullying caused others to either quit their jobs or turn to bullying themselves with the ‘if you can’t beat them join them’ mentality. We were in a ‘sick’ system that was only getting sicker. I threw myself further into my work, seeing what else I could do for my patients, taking on more roles and skills training and doing my best to help ‘fix’ the system, even though it didn’t want to be fixed.
I began working longer hours, studying more, and constantly living in some form of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, then depression and PTSD, diagnosed as a subset of all that I had been enduring under a ‘sick’ system. At about that time I started reading all the books — The Secret, The Power of Now, The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari, and so on.
I’ve since embraced my new direction — personal evolution of self and others, and the nursing entrepreneur. This innovation is where I’ve been able to thrive, providing care focused on health and wellness, not on the management of sickness. In doing so, I have founded and grown a million dollar a year business as well as three additional successful businesses. I’ve become an EntrepreNurse. (Turns out the word entrepreneurs was misspelled — put that last ‘e’ at the end, it’s really “EntrepreNurse”!) I’ve discovered the ultimate transformative framework that helps us get back to caring for ourselves, so that we can more powerfully care for others. This framework has helped thousands positively transform their lives, families, communities and businesses, and it’s my mission to help others retrain their mind and transform their healthcare career for maximum impact.
Break free from the exhaustion of working in the “sick-care” system and unlock your true potential by utilizing your current skills to create a thriving, patient-focused, healthcare business you love
